Chris Evans has “emotionally moved on” from his role as Captain America and is not expected to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe according to Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame.
Considering we have all seen Avengers: Endgame, well we all should have done by now, I don’t think this news will be a surprise to anyone. However, with the recent Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer which confirmed a major twist as a result of Endgame, there are many ways that we could see the return of Steve Rogers as Captain America.
Talking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Russo’s said that there were no plans for Chris Evans to return as Steve Rogers. Since Marvel Studios have mapped out the future, I think it is safe to say that Avengers: Endgame was Chris Evans’ last appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Steve’s arc is definitely over, and whether you agreed with the way it ended or not, the Russo Brothers definitely had an idea of how they wanted it to end.
“And Steve’s arc is about trying to find some personal life, you know? Like he’s been a man for others for so long, when does he get to be a man for himself? And how is that not selfish? How is that just earned?”
Seeing Chris go was incredibly emotional. He’s been our favourite shield-wielding hero from Brooklyn since 2011, but I think Endgame was a lovely send off to a hero adored by many. We also saw that while Steve may be out of the picture, the Captain America mantle has been passed on and that opens up a very bright future for Sam Wilson who was given a brand new shield, and even Bucky who is set to join Sam in a spin off show.
I want to know your favourite Steve Rogers moment so please share them in the comments!
Excluding some of the moments in Avengers: Endgame like the iconic “Avengers Assemble” and Steve finally showing how worthy he is, my two favourite moments are from Captain America: Winter Soldier.
The highway fight against Bucky will always be one of my favourite scenes in the entire MCU, it’s absolutely amazing. My other moment is when Steve claims that he isn’t ready to date someone with a lip piercing, it gets me every time.
