Probing the Paranormal… Fan Fest Hits Fort Mifflin!

This past weekend paranormal expert Brian J. Cano hosted an evening-long investigation at the historical Fort Mifflin located in Philadelphia, PA. Known as a premier source for supernatural activity, Fort Mifflin has seen a great many investigators pass through its gates so it is no wonder, Mr. Cano, with over 15 years of experience under his belt, chose it as the perfect spot to kick off his 2019 tour. Given the ever-expanding popularity of exploring the unexplained, I decided to experience the process myself and share it right here at Fan Fest News.

Having never been on an investigation, I found it helpful that the day began with an educational and engaging presentation. Brian brought forth his years of professional knowledge while encouraging the group to share their own personal experiences, ideas, and theories. I learned that as investigative techniques evolve, so do the thought processes of the investigators themselves. Brian explained his own skepticism in the early stages of his investigative journey and how he has since expanded his views of paranormal possibilities. Whether utilizing EVP recorders, spirit boxes, mel meters, full spectrum cameras or your simply your own senses, the key is in collecting data to gain a better understanding of what lies beyond.

Armed with newfound knowledge, I felt prepared to face Fort Mifflin. What would this Revolutionary War Battlefield bring forth? Hell, taking on the role of a prison during the Civil War surely left a ‘spirited’ residue, right? As darkness finally rolled in, Brian gathered the troops to give the orders. We were broken up into smaller investigative groups throughout the night, allowing us an opportunity to explore the various buildings on site. Would there be more activity in a given location, or with a specific group, or with a certain piece of equipment? Would there be any activity at all? I was ready to find out.

Not fully knowing what to expect, I tentatively explored Fort Mifflin’s various buildings and observed an array of techniques being utilized in an attempt to capture otherworldly entities that yielded some thought-provoking results. Meters came to life in the Commandants House, soft voices captured in the Powder Magazine, expressive activity unleashed in Casemate 11.

Not everything required a gadget though, I found that sitting in absolute silence allowed me to ‘feel’ the surroundings, to connect with the energy. I did not need to be physically nudged to know there is existence beyond our own being. What does this all mean though? It means, I need to know more. Why should I expect a presence to greet me just because I’m there? Perhaps I was not ready to receive them, perhaps they were not ready to receive me. Do I now believe? I am skeptically optimistic. 😉

I would like to thank Brian J. Cano for allowing me to be part of his event, I learned a lot about this oftentimes misunderstood field and I learned a lot about myself. Thank you also to the staff at Fort Mifflin for providing a warm welcome and for all the hard work they do in preserving this incredibly rich piece of history. I look forward to continuing my research and hope to visit again soon.
