Gollum Is Getting His Own Video Game

What’s that Precious?

Sméagol is getting a video game?

That’s right! The German game developer Daedalic Entertainment has revealed the title of a new upcoming game set in the wondrous world of  Middle-Earth.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum

The action-adventure game will reportedly follow Gollum and Sméagol after they acquired the One Ring but before the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

I’m sure a few people are wondering what the point is but considering that Gollum was roughly around 600 years old, I think it would be pretty interesting to see what he was up to during that time. What exactly did Gollum get up to? We’ve seen him kill but it’ll be interesting to see the lengths Gollum will go to protect his precious.

Talking to Hollywood Reporter, the CEO and co-founder of Daedalic Entertainment, Carsten Fichtelmann said:

“We have the story that we all know from the book, but everything that happens to him before he appears in the book are the main things we will see in our game,”

“We will tell the story before he first appears in the books.”

The game is set to be released in 2021 and seems to be the first game in a series of Lord of the Rings themed games. Coincidentally, the game will be released in the same year as the $1 billion Lord of the Rings television series that is currently in production.

What other games would you like to see in the future? Perhaps a game based on the early days of Gandalf, or maybe even Morgoth The First Dark Lord? The prospect of more games means that fans could get a wider exploration of the lore established by Tolkien or, as the Gollum game proves, new lore that will essentially fill in gaps between time periods.

What do you think about this new game? Will you be exploring Middle-Earth as the cunning Gollum? Let us know in the comments below.
