‘Riverdale’: How creator plans to address Luke Perry’s death

Luke Perry’s Fred Andrews has become a beacon of light and hope in the grim town of Riverdale. Since Perry’s passing on March 4, fans have been wondering what that means for Riverdale.

We won’t have to say goodbye just yet, as Fred will still be seen in season 3. Perry didn’t finish filming the season so there will probably be some explanation to his sudden disappearance. As for season 4, Fred will probably be written off.

The show’s creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the show will acknowledge Perry’s death but for the time being, no official decisions have been made.

“You know, honestly, we are I think all still in shock and are all still processing and grieving,” Roberto said. “We know that we have to address it in some way, but we’re giving ourselves a little bit of time and space before we figure out the best way to honor him.”

Production has resumed for Riverdale. The writers have options as to writing Fred off the show. They could kill him off, whether at the hands of another character or naturally, or they can send him to be with his wife, Mary in Chicago.

The first episode after Perry’s passing, “Fire Walk With Me,” included a brief appearance as Fred comes to Archie’s aid after being stabbed. It also included a tribute to Perry. This episode, “as all episodes will be for the rest of [Riverdale’s] run” according to Roberto will be dedicated to Perry.
