Ben Affleck Hangs Up The Cowl

Ben Affleck, who portrayed Batman in Batman v Superman and Justice League, has officially confirmed that he is no longer Batman. His reign as the Dark Knight, while short, is now over.

Talking to Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Affleck said:

“I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter but just couldn’t come up with a version — I couldn’t crack it and so I thought it’s time for someone else to take a shot at it. They got some really good people so I’m excited.”

Originally, Ben Affleck was set to star and direct his own solo film. In 2017, he stepped down as the director and was replaced by Matt Reeves. Now the solo film will feature a much younger and presumably inexperienced Batman compared to Affleck’s who had been Batman for 20 years.

Jimmy Kimmel helped Ben retire his cape in a fun and humorous way, but I feel that many fans such as myself, weren’t smiling all that much when the news broke out. It is an awful shame that Ben Affleck is no longer Batman, with so much uncertainty surrounding the DC movies, it’s hard to predict what is going to happen next.

Thank you Ben for doing your best. There are many people out there who really loved your incarnation of the Caped Crusader.

Now that it is official, who would you like to see as Batman in Matt Reeves’ solo film, The Batman. Set to be released in June 2021.
