‘Riverdale’s’ Ashleigh Murray is joining ‘Katy Keene’

Ashleigh Murray AKA Riverdale’s Josie McCoy is heading off to the Big Apple to join Katy Keene.

Josie, now in her 20s, is determined to break into the music industry while making friends and finding new relationships. Since Katy Keene is a “musical dramedy,” it only makes sense that Josie will be there. Plus, the spinoff takes place post-Riverdale High.

Murray has been a series regular on Riverdale since the show premiered on The CW in January 2017 when she was introduced as the lead singer of Josie and the Pussycats.

Katy Keene will center around the title character, a model, actress, and singer in the comic series who is an aspiring New York City fashion designer. The show will explore the backstories and personal struggles of four Archie Comics characters as they chase their dreams in New York City.

According to Deadline, the episode is being written by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and writer/producer Michael Grassi, with Maggie Kiley (RiverdaleChilling Aventures of Sabrina) directing. The show hasn’t been ordered to series just yet but, should that happen, Murray will exit Riverdale to play one of the four leads in Katy Keene, instead.

We’ll definitely be happy for Josie if she makes the big move, but Riverdale will never be the same without her.
