‘YOU’ Without Joe’s Voiceover is Actually Creepier Than the Show
Whether you quickly binged Netflix’s YOU over the holidays or have recently discovered the gem, chances are you’ve been significantly creeped out by Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). The show, which was adapted from Caroline Kepnes novel, did a brilliant job of utilizing Joe’s inner thoughts as the main medium for telling the story. As the audience, we spent a lot of time in Joe’s head, listening to his psychotic, manipulative, and at times comedic thoughts. But, did we ever stop to think about just what that looked and felt like for those around him?
Thanks to a compilation video that Netflix put together we now get to see that while we were getting to listen to Joe’s thoughts, whoever was in the scene with him was just met with utterly awkward silence. Like, it’s bizarre just how creepy he looks staring off into space and not saying anything…sometimes in the middle of conversations. As annoying as she was, Peach was right all along. Check out the video below!
YOU has been renewed for a second season and it will find Joe moving across the country to Los Angeles where he will meet Love Quinn (Haunting of Hill House’s Victoria Pedretti), an aspiring chef working as a produce manager in a high-end grocery store who is very uninterested in the world of social media. Will she suffer the same unfortunate fate as Becks?
So, what’s creepier YOU with Joe’s thoughts or YOU without Joe’s thoughts? Let us know! Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
