‘Chucky’ TV Series Officially in the Works from Franchise Creator Don Mancini

After some speculation and teasing, it’s officially happening. Franchise creator Don Mancini is bringing the serial killer-possessed, slasher doll Chucky to life in an upcoming TV series on Syfy.

The news comes almost a year after Mancini announced that the idea of a Child’s Play TV series was in development. Mancini teased the series even further when he posted a Child’s Play: The TV Series gif on his twitter page last summer. Now, Syfy has landed the rights to the upcoming series from Mancini along with producer David Kirschner and TV writer/producer Nick Antosca (Hulu’s The Act).

On Tuesday, Mancini shared his excitement over the news by posting a photo of himself with Antosca, and the franchise’s freckled-faced Chucky doll to his social media pages. The caption of the photo simply reads, “WATCH YOUR BACK, @NickAntosca”

The Child’s Play franchise has been going strong for over 30 years now, with each film being a progression from the last. The latest film in the franchise, Cult of Chucky is not just your typical slasher/horror film. It’s a film which clearly displays the continued evolvement and growth of Mancini (and Chucky). Mancini expertly combines horror with humor and beautifully poetic cinematography shots with old-school gore making this film an enjoyable ride for any fan of the franchise. We hope to see a similar level of excellence in the upcoming television series!

In addition to Mancini’s series, a separate Child’s Play remake film is also in production. The film will be a contemporary reimagining of the original franchise starring Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman. Mancini is not involved with this film.
