‘The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero Shares an Up-Close and Personal Look at The Whisperer’s Alpha

We are less than two weeks away from The Walking Dead‘s midseason return and what’s sure to be an exciting and terrifying second half of season nine. The moment which fans of the comic book source material have been waiting for has finally arrived. The Whisperers are here.

The group is known for wearing walker skin to blend in with roaming herds while communicating through faint whispers which, to someone not paying close attention, simply sound like walker groans. They’re terrifying. They’re dangerous, and they have already claimed one of our beloved survivors.

Previously, AMC shared some truly creepy key art finally giving fans a good look at this new terrifying threat. Now, executive producer, director, and special effects extraordinaire Greg Nicotero has shared an up-close and personal look at The Whisperers leader, Alpha (played by Samantha Morton).

The photo below shows one of the most iconic moments from The Walking Dead comic book material, which you can read about here. Check out Nicotero’s post below.

In addition to Morton, Sons of Anarchy star Ryan Hurst is also joining the series in the role of Beta, a pivotal villainous character from the comic book source materials. Beta is the second in command to Alpha (played by Morton) as leader of the Whisperers.

The synopsis for the second half of the season teases “disturbing and terrifying” trouble ahead as we dive deeper into the world of the Whisperers. Check out the new synopsis below.

[row]“The second half of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 finds our groups of survivors, both old and new, continuing to deal with the impact of events that took place during the six years that have passed. Since the disappearance of Rick, many of these characters have become strangers to each other, and in some ways, strangers to themselves. What they do know is that they are in undeniable danger. They will soon realize the world just beyond does not operate as they thought. The group’s rules and ways of survival no longer guarantee their safety. A whole new threat has crossed their paths, and they soon discover it’s unlike any threat they have encountered or endured before. The group will start to question what they think they see. What may appear to be normal in this post-apocalyptic world could actually be more disturbing and terrifying than when the apocalypse first broke out. All that is certain is the stakes are high and numerous.”[/row]

It’s a whole new ball game in the zombie apocalypse when The Walking Dead returns on February 10th on AMC.
