Marvel Fans Assemble To Help Terminally Ill Fan’s Dream Come True

You know what I love about being a nerd and being invested in massive fandoms?

It’s the way in which fans rally together in times of need. Whether it’s offering support to actors who have fallen on bad times, or in this case, sharing someone’s story to make a terminally ill man’s dream come true.

Yesterday, the Reddit group /r/Marvelstudios exploded after reading a story about someone battling cancer. Reddit user /u/alexander_q posted that he is battling liver and mouth cancer, as well as bone marrow failure. As a proud member of the Marvel and superhero fandom, I’m glad to see that the internet instantly banded together in order to get Alexander a special screening of Avengers: Endgame.

Alexander shared this story online saying:

“I’m not a child or anyone with a particularly tragic story. Just a normal guy. I’m 33, lost my sister three years ago to the same rare genetic disease it turns out I have too. I’ll leave behind a devoted girlfriend and an adopted greyhound.

I thought I’d make it to April at least but my bone marrow is toast”

Our thoughts go out to Alexander and his family and friends during this difficult time.

The Reddit post has had over 85,000 upvotes and has made its way over to twitter where responses have flooded in from all over the world.

This post is covering a story, a fascinating one that shows the amount of love there is in the Marvel fandom, but it is also a call for help. Share this. Tweet this. Tag everyone. Throw your voice out there.

Unfortunately, Alexander may not be able to see Avengers: Endgame, and it’s down to us to change that. Not all heroes wear capes, not all heroes have super powers, but heroes do help other heroes in times of need. Alexander needs us.

There have been rare cases where I’ve been overwhelmed with joy when it comes to being involved in a fandom. This is one of those moments. Thank you to everyone who has shared his story so far and thank you to those who are going to.

I believe this is a perfect time to use this as I’m sure Stan Lee would be very proud about what is transpiring online…
