Ah, free games. Not much is better, right? Thankfully Playstation Plus is the gift that keeps giving, with every month presenting a new batch of free games for you to devour (or add to you ever growing backlog). Sure, not every month is full of winners, but free is still free and almost everybody is sure to get at least a few hours of enjoyment out of these titles.

Playstation announced today via their official Twitter account that, “Steep and Portal Knights headline the PS Plus lineup for January 2019.” The announcement added, “Don’t forget, Warframe’s PS Plus Booster Pack III is available until January 15th.”

Also available is Zone of Enders HD Collection (PS3), Amplitude (PS3), Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion (PS Vita with Cross Buy for PS4) and Super Mutant Alien Assualt (PS Vita).

Steep is an open world sports game. Sounds cool, right? An interesting concept and fun game play involving sking, snowboarding and paragliding make this one a good choice for the cold and depressing month of January.

Zone of Enders HD Collection is exactly what it says, an HD remastered collection of the Zone of Enders games. The package includes Zone of Enders and Zone of Enders: The 2nd Runner, which was previously unreleased in America until this collection. The games both feature mecha/robot combat, so you can’t really go wrong.

Amplitude is a unique music and rhythm game made by the same company that brought you the incredible Guitar Hero franchise, Harmonix. Rather than using a fake guitar to play through the songs, you fly a ship through various sci-fi landscapes trying to maintain the rhythm. It’s cooler than it sounds.

Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion is a fast-paced RPG. Fallen Legion boasts unique graphics due to their hand drawn nature and is a game where choice matters; whether you choose to be heroic or unrelenting your choices will change how the game plays out and who your friends are.

Finally, there’s Super Mutant Alien Assault, an old school style shooting platformer akin to the 16-bit classics of old and featuring a difficulty to match. You’ll shoot and blow up your way through wave after wave of aliens as you navigate the single screen randomly generated levels in hopes of surviving the unending onslaught from three galaxies.
