‘The Walking Dead’s’ Chandler Riggs Could Have Been Spider-Man

While Tom Holland is the third Spider-Man to grace the silver screen, there could have been an entirely different actor all together playing the role. Can you imagine what could have been if Chandler Riggs was cast as Peter Parker? This could have been the case if Riggs had nabbed the role of the famous web slinger that finally brought Spider-Man to the current MCU.

During a recent Fan Fest event, Riggs appeared alongside fellow Walking Dead co-stars Katelyn Nacon and Ross Marquand on a panel where he shared: “I auditioned for Spider-Man, I thought that would have been cool. But it’s okay, it’s okay.” Riggs has come to terms with not attaining the role and finds Tom Holland’s portrayal of the superhero awesome. “Tom Holland, he does such an amazing job as Spider-Man, he’s seriously amazing. It’s awesome. I watched Homecoming a few weeks ago and he’s so funny, and like so perfect for the role, it’s really well done.”

Despite Riggs coming to terms with not landing the role, Marquand made a point to tell Riggs, “You are Spider-Man, you are Peter Parker.” However, now that we’ve seen Holland in the role it’s hard to imagine anyone besides him portraying Peter Parker. This is especially hard because I find him to be the best Spider-Man within every franchise incaration. There’s something about the way Holland portrays the web slinger that brings audiences joy and leaves us wondering what would it be like if we had another person playing the role.

I would love to see Riggs cast as Harry Osborn to become a part the franchise. Although Sam Raimi featured the Green Goblin heavily, alongside Harry, Harry Osborn is Peter Parker’s best friend. The reveal of Norman Osborn as a villain could provide a fascinating dynamic played by Holland and Riggs on screen.  Add in the element of Harry discovering Peter is Spider-Man somehow could lend itself to a pivotal scene in the series as well as their friendship.  If forced to save his father or his best friend who would Harry choose?

If Riggs entered into the MCU he would be in good company. Many other Walking Dead has graced the screen within the universe including Ross Marquand, Danai Gurira, and Michael Rooker. With the talents that lurk within The Walking Dead cast they would be crazy not to attain one more actor from the franchise in some way, shape, or form.

Do you think Riggs would have made a great Peter Parker? Can you see him taking on the role in the future? Do you see him as another character in the MCU? Who else would you enjoy seeing within the MCU? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Holland’s Spider-Man is next scheduled to appear in Avengers: Endgame April 26, 2019 and in Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 26, 2019.
