James Cameron Announces the Main Cast has Wrapped Production on ‘Avatar’ Sequels

The Avatar sequels have taken a giant leap towards completion recently with director James Cameron officially marking the end of the production on the films.

Cameron, who typically stays immersed in his work while working on a film, made a rare appearance in a video posted on the official Avatar social media pages to give an update on the films’ progress. In the video, he says, “Hi, James Cameron here and today I’m coming to you from the set of the Avatar sequels — and behind me, you can see our performance-capture stage. Today we’re capturing some stunt scenes, but our principal cast are all wrapped: Sam [Worthington], Zoe [Saldana], Sigourney [Weaver], Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet. They’re done now but they gave us incredible performances. I can’t tell you how proud I am of the work that they did on these films.”

Cameron then takes a moment to promote another project which he has been working on, Alita: Battle Angel – a film which is described in the tweet as Cameron’s “long-time passion project.” Cameron introduces the new trailer for Alita and we have to admit, it looks pretty amazing. Clearly excited over the upcoming Avatar sequels, film star Zoe Saldana retweeted Cameron’s video saying, “Lots of great things coming your way. Still a bit of a wait until the next @officialavatar comes out, but in the meantime – you should check out @AlitaMovie!!”

Avatar 2 is expected to hit theaters on December 18, 2020, and will be followed by Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021. After that, there is potential for two additional sequels based on the box office numbers of the first two.
