‘Friday the 13th Vengeance’ Breaks Kickstarter Records; Hyping Prospects for New Studio Film
Ever since LeBron James announced publicly that he would like to become a part of horror history by bringing Friday the 13th back to life, the iconic horror franchise has begun trending all over social media once more. After years of remaining dormant, the name Jason Voorhees, has been spreading once again like wild fire. To horror fans, this could not be more fantastic. After Blumhouse’s Halloween (2018) killed it at the box office opening weekend, fans have been wondering which of the iconic slashers would get their new film next. Leatherface was extremely well received by the fanbase, so the Texas Chainsaw Massacre had it’s day.
For years and years, Friday the 13th fans have been dealing with the ongoing lawsuit that has been continuously robbing fans of getting their new film. It has certainly been a frustrating process to say the least. However, regardless of what legal papers are being pushed from desk to desk – there is one thing that we can say is true about the Friday the 13th franchise – and that is that the fan base will never die. The fandom has multiple fan groups on social media, all of which contain extremely avid fans who chat daily about how their love only continues to grow.
One name that has been trending on horror groups all over social media, is ‘Vengeance’. ‘Vengeance’ is a upcoming Friday the 13th fan film – one that Friday fans are calling ‘the film we’ve been waiting for’. The film will be taking place 30 years after Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives and will be bringing on alumni C.J. Graham and Steve Dash; with Film Consultation by Tom McLoughlin, Director of Part 6.
As if bringing on some alumni was not cool enough, Director Jeremy Brown and his fantastic writing staff (including award winner Mike Meade) and admin team are bringing a character to life that has escaped fans for so long. Elias Voorhees. Elias Voorhees, a character that many fans will recognize from the comics and novelizations, was depicted to be the father of Jason. In the comic series Jason vs Leatherface, Elias was shown to hate his son and frequently called him a monster.
‘Vengeance’ launched a Kickstarter on October 24th with a funding goal of $25,000. This put their projected funding goal as the highest, single shot fundraising campaign goal for all proceeding Friday fan films. In a shocking and extremely exciting twist of fate, the film not only reached budget in just nine days – they exceeded it by $13,000. One ecstatic fan even made an incredible donation of $10,000 to the project – excited to be a part of a remarkable chapter of Friday history. Currently sitting at a little over $38,000; Team Vengeance is looking forward to bringing an incredible fan film. Not only is the projected story quite remarkable, but the cause behind the film is extremely moving. Once the production costs are covered, Team Vengeance will be donating all the proceeding funds to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital Burn Victim Unit.
Leading Actor, Jason Brooks, has already done remarkable works for the organization. After working countless hours at the Nile Shriner’s Haunted Lodge, he himself has already raised $10,000 for the cause. It is stories of people like Jason that are truly inspiring. The Shriners are well known for their medical service for children from disadvantaged families; and has hospitals all across not only the country, but the world as well.
Perhaps ‘Vengeance’ is exactly the film that is needed to give the studios that extra push to move this legal case right along. If there is one thing that the success of ‘Vengeance’ shows, it is that regardless of the lawsuit, the fans will stop at nothing to see their beloved Jason Voorhees back on screen. While the rest of the world may view us Friday fans as a group of weirdos, we find a family within it. I have been a fan of the series for years, and I have never seen such a camaraderie like the one I have seen of late. If there is one thing that this Kickstarter run has proved, it is that that fans WANT their franchise back, and based off of all the support that ‘Vengeance’ has been receiving online – it is going to be a great one!
As fans, we can only hope that all of the legal parties involved will catch these fan films on their radar – and see how important Friday the 13th is to people. Especially since this film is going to be carrying on proceeding one of the most popular chapters in the franchise.

“Vengeance” takes place roughly thirty years after the events of “Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI”. The story begins with Elias Voorhees, Jason’s father, returning to Crystal Lake and a string of grisly murders that soon follows his arrival. After hearing the news of the most recent killings Tommy Jarvis then goes missing, which leaves it up to his daughter Angelica Jarvis to rise to the challenge of not only finding her father, but also finding a way to destroy his old nemesis Jason Voorhees in the process. Armed with knowledge never previously known about Jason, Angelica may prove to be his greatest threat yet, which culminates in an epic showdown of Jarvis vs. Voorhees.
‘Vengeance’ will begin filming next week, with a projected release time frame of May 2019.
