We are inching ever closer to saying goodbye to a leader we’ve followed for the past 8 years. That leader is Rick Grimes.
To prepare, AMC has released a touching compilation of clips of cast members on The Walking Dead, past and present, all thanking Andrew Lincoln.
Andrew Lincoln has been praised by his fellow castmates over the past 8 years he has portrayed Rick Grimes, and now that he’s leaving the series, that praise means that much more.
In the newly released video, we see present cast members such as Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Avi Nash (Siddiq), Alanna Masterson (Tara), Ross Marquand (Aaron), Katelyn Nacon (Enid), and Danai Gurira (Michonne) all thanking him for the selfless, caring, passionate actor and friend he is. We also see past cast members such as Michael Cudlitz, Steven Yeun, Sonequa Martin-Green, and the late Scott Wilson.
The video opens with Wilson saying, “Andrew Lincoln,” while smiling and thinking fondly-not having the words to say.
“Andy Lincoln is one of the most kind and generous people you can work with,” adds Lauren Cohan.
“He’s one of my best friends ever. He’s very very dear to me. He’d taught me to be a better father, a better friend, a better actor,” Norman Reedus says in the video.
Since The Walking Dead first aired on AMC on October 31st, 2010, fans have looked up to Rick Grimes as they followed his search for his family in a zombie-infested Atlanta. Through all the losses and successes, we’ve had faith in him to get his people through the world’s end.
He has done that, and Andrew Lincoln has obviously made just as great a mark on his cast mates as Rick had on their respective characters.
At one point in the video, Danai Gurira says he wanted to open up the hit series to the other actors, so they could share their stories.
Andrew Lincoln’s exit was confirmed in July, and this Sunday, his final episode of the series will air.
The synopsis of Rick’s final episode, 9×05 What Comes After is as follows:
Rick is forced to face the past as he struggles to maintain the safety of the communities and protect the future he and Carl envisioned.
How do you think Rick will say his final goodbye to us and the rest of the group?
Catch Rick’s final episode of The Walking Dead Sunday at 9 PM ET on AMC.
