‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 2 Premiere Date + Trailer Released
Since its premiere in late 2017, Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been on a phenomenal ride. Not only did the series debut to critical and commercial success, but it has since been dominating the Comedy categories all of the major award shows. This past September, Masiel walked away with 8 Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series, Oustanding Actress for Rachel Brosnahan and Outstanding Supporting Actress for Alex Borstein. So, it’s extremely exciting to learn that we won’t have to wait much longer to dive back into the world of stand-up comedy as Amazon has announced that season two will hit Prime Video on December 5th!
Season 2 finds Rachel Brosnahan returning as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a 1950’s housewife in the Upper West Side who decides to try her hand at stand-up comedy after her husband leaves her. After finding success on the stage in the inaugural season, this year Midge and her manager Susie (Alex Borstein) are hitting the road!
The season will still be spending time in its home base of New York, but creator Amy Sherman Palladino said that she wanted “to see those two girls stay some nights in shitty hotels and playing some dumpy clubs.” One stop on the list? The Catskills, which really looks like the place you want to be as an adult in ’50’s because it basically looks like summer camp. There’s beauty pageants, talent shows, hula hooping, and apparently a skating rink? The Catskills also features the famous Borscht Belt where iconic comedians such as Joan Rivers, Jerry Lewis, Billy Crystal, Rodney Dangerfield, Sid Caesar and Buddy Hackett often frequented.
The trailer also promises plenty of Midge’s meddling parents, Rose and Abe Weissman, and it looks like her ex-husband Joel is still in the picture as the only one who knows of her “double life”. Of course, Chuck alum and upcoming Shazam! star Zachary Levi has joined the cast a series regular playing an “eclectic Manhattan doctor who suddenly starts orbiting the Weissman/Maisel world.”
But most importantly, The Marvelous. Mrs. Maisel is front and center on that stage doing her thing!
