Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Jungle Cruise’ Announces New Summer 2020 Release Date

On Friday, Disney’s Jungle Cruise announced a brand new drop date for the upcoming Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt film.

The film was originally scheduled to release in October of 2019, however, it has now been pushed back to July 24, 2020. Johnson himself announced the date change via his social media pages. On Instagram, he posted, “IT’S OFFICIAL. It’s a ways away, but we plant our summer flag early — JULY 24th, 2020. Ladies and gentlemen and children of all ages. My partner in crime, Emily Blunt and I, cordially invite you to join us for THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME. What could possibly go wrong? All aboard 😈 DISNEY’S JUNGLE CRUISE 🚢 🗺🌴❤️🥃”

While it’s not uncommon for films to change premiere dates, the shift of Jungle Cruise is particularly interesting. The film’s new release date is set one week prior to a date which Marvel had an untitled film slotted for release. The Hollywood Reporter says that the Marvel untitled film has since been removed from that date which leads to speculation that perhaps that’s when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was supposed to be released. Either way, it seems that Disney and Marvel are shuffling dates around for their future-slated films.

The Jungle Cruise film stars Johnson and Blunt and is based on the beloved Disney Parks ride. The Jungle Cruise ride first opened in Disneyland in 1955. Since then, the ride has become a Disney staple in its theme parks around the world. The ride offers a scenic boat tour of the most exotic and exciting rivers across Asia, Africa, and South America.

Disney’s Jungle Cruise will now set sail to theaters on July 24, 2020.
