‘The Flash’ Standalone Movie Pushed Back to Projected 2021 Release

The Flash may be the fastest man alive, but the standalone movie appears to be currently at a bit of a stall.

Variety reports that The Flash standalone film from Warner Bros. is pushing back the start of filming, potentially until late in 2019. The upcoming movie has yet to be announced as formally greenlit and specific dates for its release were never solidified, however, Variety reports that the film was anticipated to begin shooting in March. As it turns out, the film’s production has uncovered some hurdles and obstacles with that timeframe.

For one, it’s being reported that the script is still being finalized. The studio is continuing to make tweaks and edits which likely won’t be completed in time for the film’s initially planned production start date. Additionally, it looks like the world of wizards and muggles may also be partially to blame for the delay. The Flash star Ezra Miller is also currently starring in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts films with the franchise’s second film, The Crimes of Grindelwald, set to premiere this November. Filming for the third film is expected to start in July 2019 which causes conflict for the titular character. The Flash might be fast, but he certainly can’t be in two places at once.

As a result, it is believed that filming for The Flash standalone film will not begin until late 2019 which means the film likely won’t premiere until some time in 2021 (which seems like it’s eons away!).

At this point, who knows what could happen with DC and Warner Bros. After the poor performance of  Batman vs. Superman and Justice League, the studio is said to be reevaluating its filmmaking. Rumors recently began swirling that the studio would no longer be moving forward with future Superman films with star Henry Cavill, and just recently, it’s been speculated that Ben Affleck may be out as Batman as well. Even with these shakeups, the studios are moving forward with two of their most highly-anticipated upcoming features Aquaman which is due out this December and Wonder Woman 84.
