‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’ Canceled on Netflix

If you were looking forward to a third season of Marvel’s Iron Fist on Netflix, we have some unfortunate news for you. On Friday, it was announced that the series was canceled on Netflix. The cancellation comes just a little over a month after the second season of Iron Fist debut on the streaming service.

'Marvel’s Iron Fist’ Canceled on Netflix

According to Deadline, Marvel and Netflix released a joint statement to them saying:

[row]“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” it read. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew, and showrunners… We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the Immortal Iron Fist will live on.”[/row]

The last line in the statement which says, “the Immortal Iron Fist will live on,” appears to leave the future of the series open-ended. Perhaps, we might see Iron Fist show up on Disney’s new streaming service which is set to launch in 2019, or perhaps that’s a reference to Danny Rand (played by Finn Jones) continuing to show up on series like The Defenders or perhaps Jessica Jones. In fact, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the character will live on in other Marvel series within the universe!

Jones took to Instagram on Friday to express his thoughts on the news writing, “with every end is a new beginning. I have an enormous amount of love and respect for everyone involved with the last two seasons of this show. Defending the greatest city in the world amongst the most talented and warmest people has been a privilege and a joy. Blessed to have taken this journey and grateful for the ongoing support.” Check out his post below.

The first season of Iron Fist was met with much criticism. The second season premiered back in September and has been widely regarded as a vast improvement over the first season. The series cancellation is a first for the Marvel shows on Netflix. Despite Iron Fist‘s cancellation, an announcement on Luke Cage‘s season three is still expected and a brand new season of Daredevil is about to premiere on Netflix on October 19th, so there’s still a whole lot more of Marvel to enjoy on Netflix.
