It’s an exciting announcement for New Amsterdam, which is only just beginning its debut season. A renewal this quickly certainly bodes well for NBC’s faith in the heartwarming drama as the series has been dominating its Tuesday night post-This Is Us timeslot. The series premiere raked in 8.4 million total viewers and has only slipped to 7.1 million by its third episode. The extra nine-episode order now brings New Amsterdam’s total count to 22 episodes.

New Amsterdam follows Dr. Max Goodwin (The Blacklist’s Ryan Eggold), a new medical director at America’s oldest public hospital who sets out to break all the rules and heal the fractured system. The series also stars Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, Tyler Labine, and Anupam Kher.

The Resident is currently airing its second season on Fox, which thanks to full-season order will now run for a total of 22 episodes. The series, which stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, and Bruce Greenwood, was officially renewed for season two back in May after a year of growing ratings, which were averaging at about 10 million total viewers per episode. This past week’s episode saw a small growth in the adult 18-49 demo and came in just under 5 million total viewers in the live + same-day ratings.

After losing some key players from the season one, The Resident’s sophomore season found Jenna Dewan coming aboard as a recurring guest star, playing Julian Lynn, a sharp and sophisticated medical device rep. The Resident follows a young doctor (Manish Dayal) who begins working under Conrad Hawkins (Czuchry), a tough and talented senior resident who is willing to peel back the medical curtains and expose the hospital for all of its successes and shortcomings, especially when it comes to the often-morally corrupt Dr. Bell (Greenwood).

The Resident is currently airing Mondays at 8/7c on Fox and New Amsterdam airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on NBC!
