Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ Video Game Still in Motion, Despite Telltale Closing

Telltale Games suddenly shut down at the end of September, which sent many gamers into panic wondering what would come of the games they’ve been anticipating.

Netflix has confirmed that the shutdown will not affect the Stranger Things Video game they are in the process of developing.

They announced the game in June, and Telltale games was still up and running. They were going to team up with Telltale to produce the game that will focus on Hawkins Indiana and the characters and story of the hit Netflix series. Telltale Games was also developing a choose your own story Minecraft: Story Mode for Netflix.

Netflic released a statement about the closing:

“We are saddened by the news about Telltale Games. They developed many great games in the past and left an indelible mark in the industry. Minecraft: Story Mode is still moving forward as planned. We are in the process of evaluating other options for bringing the Stranger Things universe to life in an interactive medium.”

The drastic layoffs signaled the abrupt cancellation of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, after the release of its first two episodes. It was announced Saturday, though, that Robert Kirkman and Skybound Games would be taking over the game to see it through to its planned end.

The release dates for the Stranger Things video game is yet to be announced, but Minecraft: Story Mode is expected to premiere its first episode before 2018 ends.
