Warner Bros has confirmed date for the upcoming Birds of Prey film!.
If all goes well, shooting of Birds of Prey will begin on February 7, 2020. Margot Robbie will revive her portrayal of Harley Quinn in the film. The Birds of Prey are a DC Comics team of superheroes that are all female. They include Huntress and Black Canary. Rumor has it that the film will add former Batgirl Cassandra Cain, Orphan, and GCPD police officer Renee Montoya who was once known as The Question.
Some of the actresses rumored to be in the running for roles in the film include Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The villain of the film is allegedly Batman villain Black Mask, a brutal crime lord.
Although Batgirl has her film in the works already, reports claim that she will make a debut in Birds of Prey, seeing as she is a founding member of the team.
The film will be directed by Cathy Yan, and Margot Robbie will be a producer. Robbie is developing the next Harley Quinn standalone film, and will appear in Harley Quinn vs. The Joker. She’s also set for Gotham City Sirens, a film with Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Suicide Squad director David Ayer will also direct that. Lastly, the Suicide Squad sequel is in the works with director Gavin O’Connor.
The concept for Birds of Prey was conceived by Jordan B. Gorfinkle and Chuck Dixon for DC Comics in 1995. It made its first appearance in Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey. The team started as a partnership between Barbara Gordon and Dinah Lance and eventually became a small, and then larger organization of mainly female bird-themed heroes. Gail Simone was recognized as the voice of authority in the team as DC Comics launched and relaunched some Birds of prey ongoing series.
The script for Birds pf Prey is being written by Christina Hodson, who is also writing the Batgirl script.
