Lauren Cohan Will Probably Return to ‘The Walking Dead’

Lauren Cohan is going to be one of two primary cast members of The Walking Dead who will be leaving the show in season nine. It’s clear that her exit has not been as high profile as that of Andrew Lincoln’s. Now, we may know why. Members of the crew are now acknowledging that her return is imminent.

We still do not know how many episodes Lauren Cohan will be in, or when her exit will happen. We can most likely guess that she will either leave to go somewhere, or the show will just not focus on her for a few episodes. Cohan joined The Walking Dead in season two as the daughter of farmer Herschel. Her characters grew in importance and eventaully fell inlove with Glenn, and their story took off from there, until his death. She is now the Hilltop leader, and new mom. She’s in the middle of a political world when season 9 premieres. Comicbook.com spoke to Angela Kang recently on a set visit, and she spoke about the plans they have for Maggie that they still intend to use.

“I’ll say first of all that we’ve still planned some more story with Maggie, Lauren wants to, it will be a little subject to her schedule but hopefully we have her back next season. We have always planned to have this great story with Maggie this season and I think we promised something. We wanted to pay off that promise. We definitely have a very strong Maggie arc.”

It’s becoming clearer that this will all depend on her schedule. She was cast in ABC’s new pilot, Whiskey Cavalier which has since been picked up to series.

The promise was to have Maggie tell a captivating story in the ninth season, and if everything goes well, the actress will be able to continue with her role on screen.

Angela went on to praise Cohan,

“Lauren has always been such a great actress for us, has done some spectacular work this season, as you’ve seen in the episodes but also in the episodes that are upcoming. There’s just some stuff that just blew me away. I’m just a pure fan. I think that’s been, again, it’s just something we wanted to do right by that character, but again it also opens up some interesting opportunities for other characters when that character is gone for reasons that will be explained in the story. That’s part of the story going forward, is what’s happening at Hilltop? How do people with Maggie not being there?”

So things look good for season nine to not be Cohan’s last season as everyone initially had thought.

We are now ramping up to say goodbye to Rick Grimes as Andrew Lincoln leaves the character he’s played for the past 9 seasons. The Walking Dead will return for season nine and Rick Grimes’ final episodes this Sunday on October 7, 2018
