Kaley Cuoco to Voice Harley Quinn in DC Animated Series

New York Comic Con announced that Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory) will voice Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC Universe animated series.

“This has been the edgiest, darkest thing I think I’ve ever done in my career,” says Cuoco. “I have cussed and screamed more than I think I ever have, and it has been a fricking blast. It’s very freeing.”

The announcement came after a first look video premiered starring Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. Harley is dressed in her icon red and black clown costume as she and Poison Ivy are in a cell at Arkham Asylum.

“I can’t wait for you guys to see my new show on DC Universe. You’re gonna piss yourselves, I promise!” Harley says in the video. “It’s got comedy, action, incredibly gratuitous violence, and, unlike that Deadpool cartoon, it’s actually comin’ out!”

“In the new DC series, Harley, as usual, is a magnet for insanity: She’s dating the Joker, and then they have a big breakup,” says Cuoco. “She decides, ‘Screw Joker, I’m going to take over Gotham City by myself.’ And that’s kind of how this series starts, how you don’t need a man to help you ruin the city. You can ruin it all by yourself.”

Cuoco will also be an executive producer on the series through her Yes, Norman Productions, alongside Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey. She also joins previously announced voice cast members Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, JB Smoove, Jason Alexander, Wanda Sykes, Giancarlo Esposito, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Diedrich Bader, Tony Hale, and Chris Meloni.

Cuoco says Harley is feisty and that “she speaks without thinking. I’m getting more and more comfortable. I walk in the (recording) booth and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, maybe it’s my alter ego coming out, and I’m enjoying it a little bit too much.’ ”

DC Universe launched Sept. 15 and the subscription service provides a mix of scripted originals as well as access to DC-themed TV, film and comic books. A premiere date for Harley Quinn has not yet been determined.
