The First Trailer for ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Is a Magical and Delightful Kite Ride
Today is one Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day because Disney has dropped the first official trailer for Mary Poppins Returns. Allow us to just say that if you were feeling skeptical about the new installment starring Emily Blunt not being able to capture that same magic and fun as the original Julie Andrews film, you will be pleasantly surprised – we couldn’t stop smiling throughout the trailer and can’t wait until this Christmas! So, “Off we go!”
Mary Poppins Returns brings us right back into the Banks family as we are re-introduced to Michael and Jane (Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer) who are now grown up.
After a terrible tragedy strikes Michael and his three kids, the family is once again visited by the enigmatic Nanny named Mary Poppins.
Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack (Hamilton’s Lin Manuel Miranda), she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
The trailer also highlights how Mary Poppins Returns will mirror the 1964 original as it teases the use of both animation and live action throughout, something that is almost synonymous with the movie.
While Julie Andrews was iconic as Mary Poppins, Blunt appears to be absolutely stunning in the role, channeling that same elegance, charm, and beauty. Not to mention, her singing voice is so reminiscent of Andrews’ that it is sure to give you chills.
In addition to Blunt and Manuel Miranda, the film also features an all-star cast including Meryl Streep as Mary’s cousin Topsy, Colin Firth as Michael’s boss, Julie Walters as Ellen, and Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Woman.
While Julie Andrews will not be making an appearance in the film, her right-hand man Dick Van Dyke will appear in a small role as Mr. Dawes Jr.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
