‘Billy on the Street’ to Return as Short-Form Web Series

CR: TruTV/Turner

Quick! Someone find Elena! Billy on the Street is back!

That’s right! Billy Eichner will be back to making dreams come true when Billy on the Street makes its triumphant return, this time as a short-form web series. On Tuesday, Eichner had teased a major announcement coming our way and he made things official via his social media pages on Wednesday.

The series host tweeted (the following should be shouted down a New York City street in your best Billy Eichner voice), “I HAVE SOME NEWS…BILLY ON THE STREET is COMING BACK!!!!!!! With special guests EMMA STONE, TIFFANY HADDISH, LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA, KATE McKINNON and MORE!!! LET’S GO, LESBIANS, LET’S GO!!!!!!”

He then tweeted out some more details regarding the series. The return of Billy on the Street will feature 8 new segments which will be released via the Billy on the Street YouTube channel as well as Eichner’s social platforms. The series is being presented by Funny or Die in conjunction with Lyft as well!

Check out Eichner’s tweets below.

According to Variety, Eichner spoke a bit more seriously on the subject by saying the following:

“I’m back to heal the country…and the world! After 5 seasons of the TV series, I knew I wanted to set the show aside in order to create some time in my schedule to pursue other projects. Now that those are taking shape, I’m truly thrilled we’ve found a way to bring ‘Billy on the Street’ back that makes so much sense for this particular show. As we all know, this is a very divisive, anxiety-ridden time and I hope these new segments – featuring the most stunning roster of guests we’ve ever had – give people a small burst of joy in their timelines while allowing me to comment on culture and the world at large in the unique way this show allows me to.”

For those not familiar, Billy on the Street is hosted by Eichner. The show follows Eichner, and the occasional celebrity guest, around the streets of New York City where Eichner ambushes unsuspecting passersby with impromptu trivia questions. The series is a zany, sporadic game show like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Past Celebrity guests have included Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd, the cast of This Is Us, Anna Kendrick and many others.

Next, Eichner will star in the upcoming season of American Horror Story: Apocalypse which is set to premiere September 12th. Additionally, he is starring as Timon in the upcoming remake of Disney’s The Lion King and he also has a Netflix comedy special in the works.

Billy Eichner is quite busy lately, but we are so excited to have him back on the streets!
