‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Actress Glenn Close Comments on James Gunn’s Firing

The outpouring of support continues for disgraced director James Gunn. This time, legendary actress Glenn Close has spoken out in support of the former Guardians of the Galaxy director.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Close was interviewed by a U.K. film magazine called Empire during which she spoke about her thoughts on Gunn’s departure. Nearly two months after Gunn was fired over past offensive social media content, Close echoed what several before her have already said – that the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 film without Gunn just doesn’t seem right. When asked her thoughts on the controversy, close replied:

[row]“It’s hard to think of it without him. It’s sad. And it brings up, I think, some very tricky issues around this movement.”[/row]

Close, of course, has first-hand experience working with Gunn as she was featured in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. She played the role of Nova Prime in the 2014 hit blockbuster. She continued explaining how she questions the bigger picture of the root issue involving Gunn’s firing. She continued:

[row]”I bring it up with every woman I talk to because I want to know what people feel, you know? Is that truly what we should be doing? Especially, in this case, somebody who’s known to ruin people for something that they wrote in a totally different context, what, ten, 12 years ago? What are we going to do, go back to our pasts and make sure that everything we said was politically correct? Who can live like that? I just feel that there’s something wrong about that.”[/row]

Close isn’t the only Marvel actor who feels this way. Shortly after Disney/Marvel announced Gunn’s termination, the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast, including Star-Lord himself Chris Pratt, came together to issue a joint statement in support of the director and requesting he be reinstated for the third installment. The most vocal of the group has been Drax actor Dave Bautista who has even gone as far as to say he’s not sure he would return for the third film without Gunn’s involvement.

The future of The Guardians of the Galaxy and, on a much bigger level, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, still hangs in the balance of uncertainty, but Disney is reportedly standing firm on their decision to terminate Gunn’s involvement. Production on the third Guardians movie was recently placed on hold indefinitely.
