This Is Us fans are in for a real treat when season three premieres this September! Instead of just jumping right into the new season, which is sure to bring even more Pearson laughs and tears than the first two did, NBC will be airing a one hour special prior to the premiere titled The Paley Center Salutes This Is Us.
According to Deadline, the special will feature “clips, interviews with the stars and creators, and a behind-the-scenes look at how the series comes together each week.” Fans can also expect some highlights from seasons one and two to be discussed with their favorite This Is Us writers, producers, and cast members including Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Chris Sullivan and Susan Kelechi Watson will chime in on their thoughts on what’s to come for the Pearson family.
The Paley Center Special sounds like the perfect way to kick off the third season, which is sure to be a whirlwind for fans who are looking forward to the next chapter of the series now that Jack’s death has been revealed. The new season will be kicking off with a fresh start as the Big Three (and Jack) celebrate their birthdays.
“We felt like at the end of Season 2, our family had grieved and processed [Jack’s death]. This is a hopeful season and a season about true new beginnings for everybody,” co-showrunner Elizabeth Berger said during their Television Critics Association summer press tour panel.
Season three will also dive much deeper into stories of the past and future that fans have been waiting for such as Toby’s origin story, Jack’s days in Vietnam, the early days of Jack and Rebecca and more about that mysterious “her” scene between old Randall and Tess.
This Is Us’ intricate and profound way of telling stories through the decades has led the drama to be nominated for multiple Emmy awards with a win going to Sterling K. Brown for his role as Randall last year. The series also won the SAG Award for Best Drama series last year as well.
This Is Us returns for season 3 on NBC Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 9/8c with the one hour special airing before!
