‘The Batman’ May Not Start Production Until Next Summer

Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been in development for some time now, and has gone through several changes since its announcement. Batman, Ben Affleck, was originally directing, but stepped down in January of 2017. Rumors are also aplenty that Affleck won’t even return as the caped crusader.

It was supposed to start filming in Spring of 2019. Now, its director Matt Reeves, might not even begin on the film until summer 2019, after Birds of Prey and The Flash are complete.

Reporter for The Wrap, Umberto Gonzalez tweeted a Batman Update Thursday, which revealed that the script is not complete:

“Kind of hard to go into preproduction when there is still no script yet.” He continued, “MAYBE goes into preproduction by end of the year for a June 19′ or later shoot. Birds of Prey & The Flash will go first.”

Birds of Prey will be based on the DC Extended Universe’s Black Canary character. She hasn’t been cast yet, but Katie Cassidy plays her on Arrow. On the other hand, The Flash already has its leading man-Ezra Miller.

On the Television Critics Association press tour, Matt Reeves, who is also known for directing Dawn of the Planet of The Apes and War For The Planet of the Apes said that he was almost finished with the script, so perhaps he is delayed once more.

“We are working on getting our draft in the next couple weeks. Right now, my head is totally into the script. Right now, I’m going to be leaving here to go back to work on the script. What we’ve talked about is hopefully in the spring or early summer, something like that.” Said Reeves.

So here’s the order we will most likely end up seeing the DC films pop out: Aquaman, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984, Bird of Prey, The Flash, and last by not least, The Batman. We batman lovers have some waiting to do, but one thing all Batman fans have in common is this: in darkness or in rain, we’ll wait for him as long as it takes.

The Batman will be the first standalone Batman film that Warner Bros. has added to the DC Extended Universe.
