TNT Drama Orders ‘The Alienist’ Limited Series Sequel ‘The Angel of Darkness’

When the TNT limited drama series The Alienist concluded back in March, fans were left wanting more! Viewers fell in love with the characters Dr. Lazlo Kreizler, John Moore, and Sara Howard as their murder mystery story was brought to life over the 10-episode series based on Caleb Carr’s best selling novel. Luckily for fans of The Alienist, there is still a lot of story to tell as it relates to these characters, and we’re going to get the chance to see it come to life on TNT.

On Thursday, TNT Drama announced that is has ordered a limited series run for the sequel to The Alienist titled The Angel of Darkness. The new series will be based on Carr’s next novel in The Alienist series which continues the story of Kreizler, Moore, and Brown.

In a statement regarding the series’ next chapter, executive vice president of original programming for TNT, Sarah Aubrey said:

“We could not be prouder of The Alienist’s outstanding, award-worthy performance and all of the work the incredible actors and crew put in to bring that story and time period to life. Our audience fell in love with these multi-dimensional, timeless characters and the journey of their struggles living in complicated times. With this new story in TNT’s Suspense Collection, we will further immerse viewers into their world as they are confronted with a new enemy.”

The Alienist followed the intense investigation into a series of gruesome, unsolved murders in New York City committed by city’s first serial killer. The psychological is based on the Anthony Award-winning international bestseller by Caleb Car, it all starts with a gruesome and bizarre murder like none that the city of New York has ever seen before.  Newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt (Brian Geraghty) is stumped by the crimes and secretly enlists the help of criminal psychologist/alienist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl) and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans). Kreizler and Moore are joined by Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) a determined secretary who dreams of becoming the first female police detective.  The trio uses psychology and early forensic techniques in order to track down the culprit and to solve the mystery behind these gruesome murders.

The series was a massive success in television ratings and received countless accolades from critics. In addition to being loved by viewers, The Alienist also earned itself six Emmy nominations including a nomination for Outstanding Limited Series.

As of right now, a formal premiere date has not yet been released for The Angel of Darkness, but we are excitedly looking forward to seeing where this next chapter takes us in The Alienist saga.
