‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Has Found Its Spock as Ethan Peck Joins the Cast

“Live long and prosper!”

That’s exactly what Star Trek: Discovery (and any television show, really) is hoping to do by adding one of the most iconic characters from the franchise to the second season of the series.  Discovery announced today that it has found its Spock for the upcoming second season after teasing the character’s arrival in the San Diego Comic-Con trailer released just a couple of months ago.

Actor Ethan Peck will be filling the half-Vulcan half-human shoes which have previously been worn by the iconic Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto the latest Star Trek film franchise. Check out the announcement from Star Trek: Discovery‘s social media below.

Peck is known for his role on the television series version of 10 Things I Hate About you and he has also appeared in popular television shows such as Madam Secretary, and Gossip Girl.

According to DeadlineDiscovery co-creator Alex Kurtzman said:

[row]“Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek. The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion. We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning.”[/row]

Clearly excited about the news, Peck shared thanks to the Nimoy family via his Twitter account and called the role, “an incomparable honor.” He tweeted, “Thanks to the Nimoy family for your open arms, warm welcome, smiling curiosity and support, for making me feel worthy, as I embrace and take into my heart the iconic half alien we know as Mr. Spock. It is an incomparable honor.”

The series also stars Sonequa Martin-Green (Commander Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Commander Saru), Shazad Latif (Lt. Ash Tyler), Mary Wiseman (Ensign Sylvia Tilly), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Commander Paul Stamets), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), Mary Chieffo (L’Rell) and Anson Mount (Captain Christopher Pike).

After the first episode premiered on CBS network, Star Trek: Discovery fueled a record-breaking number of sign-ups for the premium streaming service, CBS All Access. Star Trek: Discovery has been well received amongst fans and critics alike as it stays true to the Star Trek legacy while also providing groundbreaking additions to the series.

Star Trek: Discovery is heading into its second season on CBS All Access.
