Paul McCartney’s Carpool Karaoke to Get an Hour-Long Special On CBS
I think we can all agree that 2018 has been a bit rough at times, but with June’s Carpool Karaoke featuring James Corden and Paul McCartney, viewers were treated to a delightful 23-minute escape full of charm, heart, and iconic music. McCartney’s installment became a viral hit with nearly 130 million digital views across Facebook and YouTube and fans were utterly captured by the duo who visited McCartney’s childhood home, met with fans, and performed beloved Beatles songs at a local pub. It was an emotional roller coaster and was so touching – even Corden cried!
Seeing that they had something special, CBS has decided to air a new version of the segment featuring never-before-seen footage called Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool. The hour-long special will air on Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
[row]“We were overwhelmed by the response to our ‘Carpool Karaoke’ with Paul McCartney. We loved making it and knew we had something special, but it was so wonderful for us to see how many people watched and enjoyed it. I think it resonated with people as Paul’s music speaks to every generation, young and old, especially today. The message in the music is as relevant now as it has ever been. After the shoot, while we sat in the edit, we had to cut so much we loved for time. Not only did Paul do a concert in that Liverpool pub, but James and he discussed so much in the car. We are so delighted CBS has given us this primetime special to make an hour-long version of this ‘Carpool Karaoke.’ Now everyone can see the joy of that concert and more of their chat,” Executive producer Ben Winston said in a statement.[/row]
The conversations that we did see between Corden and McCartney were extremely meaningful and deep and while watching I certainly longed for more. Two standouts for me were when McCartney discussed a dream he had about his mother that inspired him to write “Let It Be” and when Corden told McCartney that if his “Grandad was here now he’d get an absolute kick out of this” and McCartney earnestly responded with “He is.” It was truly a beautiful moment.
The response to the video after it dropped online in June was extremely positive as fans discussed just how moved they were by the segment.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
