Netflix Boss Weighs in on the Possibility of More ‘Gilmore Girls’

Based on the success of Netflix’s Gilmore Girls four-part revival A Day in the Life, it’s safe to say that where the Gilmore’s lead the fans will follow. For nearly a decade Gilmore Girls fans had been hearing all about the infamous “last four words” that creator Amy Sherman Palladino always envisioned ending her show with. Unfortunately, due to contract negotiations, she was not a part of the show’s final season and therefore fans were left wondering for nearly ten years what they could be.

Well, when A Year in the Life finally premiered those fans were given peace of mind…somewhat. While the last four words certainly caused some controversy, they did leave an opportunity for more episodes in the future and this past weekend at Netflix’s Television Critics Association summer press tour panel, VP of original content, Cindy Holland gave fans some good news and bad news.

[row]“We haven’t discussed it at all, but [series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino] knows that we are very big fans of Gilmore Girls,” she told the press.[/row]

While the answer doesn’t seem as hopeful as many would like, Sherman-Palladino definitely has her hands full at the moment. She’s currently helming Amazon’s dramedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which has gone on to be a critical and commercial darling already earning the series two Golden Globe awards and 14 Emmy nominations. Although, there is a chance some of your favorite Gilmore Girls stars could be making an appearance on Mrs. Maisel one day.

Fear not though, fans! Back in September of last year, TVLine reported that in the fine print of Palladino’s Amazon contract there was an “out” clause that would allow her and her husband/creative partner Daniel Palladino to work on a second season should the opportunity arise, and it seems that most of the cast is right there with them. If the story is there and the timing is right, it could work, but it’s not an absolute.

[row]Now it’s become what can we [still] do with this story that’s satisfying, that [makes it] worth continuing, that will be gratifying to the people who care so much about it. I don’t know if there’s a need to do more. I would never want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome,” Graham told TVLine. [/row]

No matter how you felt about the revival, one thing that’s for sure is fans are always ready to head back to Stars Hollow.   A Year in the Life proved that the heart and spunk of the show are still there after all of these years and a follow-up season would allow Palladino the chance to dive further into the after-effects of those four words as opposed to having to craft an entire season around them.

What do you think? Would you like to see another season of A Year in the Life?  Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is currently streaming on Netflix!
