‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Renewed for Season 5

Just ahead of Fear the Walking Dead’s fourth midseason premiere, AMC has officially renewed the zombie drama series for a fifth season. The cable network made the announcement during their panel at this year’s Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.

What initially began as a prequel spinoff of The Walking Dead, Fear really came into its own these past couple seasons, and with the addition of Lennie James, Maggie Grace, and Garrett Dillahunt the potential for more character-rich stories has opened up even more.

[row]“In an environment where viewer choice is almost unlimited, the success of these shows is especially meaningful, with characters and stories that our viewers connect with and return to season after season. It’s a privilege to continue collaborating with and sharing the vision of the talented creatives behind these series, and we’re excited to start exploring the next chapter in the lives of these unique and complex characters,” said David Madden, President of Original Programming for AMC. [/row]

Things are looking quite different for Fear as it heads into the back half of season four. The midseason finale revealed the shocking death of leading matriarch, Madison (Kim Dickens), who had been the series lead since the beginning. It was a huge move for the show, which also killed off Frank Dillane’s character Nick earlier in the season, leaving just Alycia Debnam-Carey as the only actress still around from the pilot episode.

While at San Deigo Comic-Con this year, the Fear cast and creators were on hand to share the 4B trailer and offer some insight as to what the new landscape of the series will look like. For starters, the characters will be battling an enemy unlike anything they’ve encountered before – Mother Nature. The trailer teased a huge hurricane blowing through that finds everyone searching for cover and walkers through the air.

The panel also confirmed that the series would be welcoming some new characters including Stephen Henderson, Aaron Stanford, and Parks and Recreation’s Mo Collins.
