What do you get when you combine the movies the stoner comedy quality of Half Baked, the hilarious minds behind Deadpool and the iconic storyline from Fox’s blockbuster hit Home Alone? You get Ryan Reynold’s newest project with Maximum Effort.
Deadline exclusively reports that Reynolds and his production company Maximum Effort are involved in a reinspired Home Alone type film only this time, it’s called Stoned Alone.
Just from the title alone, you can pretty much guess what happens, however, according to the outlet, Stoned Alone is described as follows: “Stoned Alone is reminiscent of that hallowed comedy classic. It centers around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.”
Reynolds would be producing the film along with Maximum Effort’s George Dewey. Augustine Frizzell has signed on as the director with Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider writing the script which is based on an idea from Fox executive Matt Reilly.
The original Home Alone is one of Fox’s highest-grossing films of all time. It was released in 1990 and followed Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin) a young boy who is mistakenly left home alone during the holidays while his family flies off to Paris. Kevin is having the time of his life by himself until two serial burglars known as the Wet Bandits try to break in and threaten Kevin’s home. He then makes it his personal vendetta to protect his home from the robbers.
The original film was a family movie and a massive success all around. Reynolds’ new take on the film certainly wouldn’t be for family audiences, but with Maximum Effort involved, we actually kind of love the idea of this remake.
