According to The Hollywood ReporterBori Khan is “a warrior leader who is intent on avenging his father’s death.” While the live-action fillm will most likely not feature any of the original’s iconic songs, the premise will still follow Mulan as she disguises herself as a male warrior in order to save her father from having to go to war.

Disney has been busy announcing Mulan casting quite heavily over the past few months. While many were highly anticipating who would play Shang, Mulan’s love interest in the 1998 animated film, the studio made a big change-up and cast New Zealand actor Yoson An to play Chen Honghui, a new character serving as Mulan’s battlefield ally and love interest. The Expendables’ Jet Li will be playing the emperor of China and Donnie Yen will be playing Mulan’s mentor, Commander Tung. Memoirs of a Geisha’s Li Gong will be playing a powerful witch and Xana Tang will be stepping into a new role for the movie as Mulan’s sister.

Lee is probably most recognizable from his role in Universal’s Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, but he has been involved in the wonder world of Disney before, starring as Mowgli in Buena Vista’s 1994 live-action Jungle Book and voiced a character in Lilo & Stitch. He also appeared in Netflix’s  Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny.

Mulan joins the ranks of Disney’s new live-action lineup including last year’s Beauty & the Beast and the upcoming live-action Dumbo and The Lion King. It will be directed by Niki Caro and produced by Jason Reed, Chris Bender, Jake Weiner, and Bill Kong.

The live-action Mulan will hit theaters in March 2020!
