The classic novel written by Jack London in 1903 follows a dog named Buck, who is abducted from a comfortable life as a pet and tossed into the chaos of the Klondike Gold Rush and forced to endure the brutal wilderness. Over time Buck falls encounters a series of abusive owners before landing in the merciful hands of John Thornton. Harrison Ford will be playing Thorton, a role that has previously been played by Clark Gable in a 1935 adaption and Charlton Heston in 1972. At this time Dan Stevens’ role is still unknown.
The movie will be mainly live-action with major CG elements. Chris Sanders of The Croods and How to Train Your Dragon will make his live-action directorial debut with a script penned by Logan screenwriter Michael Green.
Dan Stevens is currently starring on FX’s sci-fi drama Legion as David Haller alongside Aubrey Plaza and Rachel Keller. He also took on the role of the Beast in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast last year and starred in The Man Who Invented Christmas. On the horizon, Stevens will star in Netflix’s Apostle, a drama about a man who attempts to rescue his sister from a religious cult as well as Her Smell, a punk-rock drama also starring Elisabeth Moss, Amber Heard, and Cara Delevigne.
The Call of the Wild will be rushing into theaters next Christmas!
