The Internet Made Some Waves with Photoshopping the New ‘Aquaman’ Poster

After months of waiting for the first images to drop from Warner Bros. and DC’s Aquaman, the first official film poster was revealed on Monday via the film’s new social media pages.

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa who reprises his role as Arthur Curry (aka. Aquaman, half-human, half-Atlantean and King of the Seven Seas, ruler of Atlantis). The film also stars Amber Heard (as Mera), Patrick Wilson (as the villainous Orm/Ocean Master), Temuera Morrison (as Tom Curry), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as Black Manta), Nicole Kidman (as Queen Atlanna), Dolph Lundgren (as King Nereus) and Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe (as Nuidis Vulko).

The first poster for the film is a stunning first glimpse into the underwater world of Atlantis, but the internet had other ideas in mind. Almost as soon as the poster was released, brilliant photoshopped versions began springing up around the internet. Some were just too brilliant not to share. Let’s have a look at what the tide dragged in, shall we?

The Internet Made Some Waves with Photoshopping the New 'Aquaman' Poster

1 – Aquaman Meets Lisa Frank:

If you grew up in the 90s, chances are, you had a trapper keeper, folder, stickers, stationary or something in your school supply kit from artist Lisa Frank. Frank combined adorable animals and underwater scenes with borderline psychedelic whimsy. One Twitter user submerged Aquaman into Lisa Frank’s whimsy world:

2 – Finding Aquaman:

The internet couldn’t help but notice that the new Aquaman poster looks strikingly similar to that of the film poster for Disney’s Finding Nemo. Of course, Aquaman was quickly photoshopped somewhere in the vicinity of Wallaby Way, Sydney.

3 – Fish are Friends. Not Food!

And the Finding Nemo references just keep on rollin’.

4 – Under the Sea:

Another Twitter user took things one step further and also included Flounder and Sebastian from The Little Mermaid and Patrick from Spongebob. It’s a party “under the sea!”

5 – AquaMeg:

Two highly-anticipated ocean-themed movies rolled into one. One Twitter user combined Aquaman with a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon from the upcoming Warner Bros. film The Meg. This would make for a badass crossover film event!

6 – Aquaman’s New Album Drops:

Parental Advisory – Explicit Content.

While the internet is having fun with photoshop, director James Wan and the Aquaman cast are gearing up for the big trailer reveal which will be happening this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. The trailer drop is perhaps the most highly-anticipated event happening at this weekend’s SDCC.

In the meantime, check out the film’s synopsis below and let us know in the comments which one of these photoshopped Aquaman posters is your favorite!

The synopsis reads:

[row]“From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.[/row]

Aquaman is directed by James Wan, best known for his work on The Conjuring and Insidious films. This is Wan’s first dip into the superhero world. He also directed Furious 7 which ended up being the top grossing film of the Fast and Furious franchise. Peter Safran is producing along with Zack and Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

Aquaman will officially splash down into theaters on December 21, 2018.
