It’s a Royal Rivalry in the First ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ Trailer
The first trailer for Mary Queen of Scots has arrived and after a first watch, I think that it’s safe to say that Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan have once again reserved themselves two seats at this year’s Oscars! The historical drama follows Saoirse Ronan in the titular role of Mary Stuart and Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth I.
The two cousins embark on a heated journey as Mary returns to Scotland to reclaim her rightful heir to the throne, but Scotland and England both fall under the rule of Elizabeth I.
What starts out as a camaraderie with intentions of ruling harmoniously alongside each other, soon turns into a rivalry, and eventually leads to war as Mary asserts her claim to the throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty.
It’s got all of the things you love about a period piece, including brilliant costumes:
Battles:
Stunning landscapes and castles:
Powdered faces:
And fighting for a throne!
The movie also stars Gemma Chan, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, David Tennant, Jack Lowden, Ian Hart, and Brendan Coyle. Directed by Jason Rourke and written by Beau Willimon, Mary Queen of Scots hits theaters on December 7th! Check out the full trailer below.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
