Keri Russell in Early Talks for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Role

The FX series The Americans completed its six-season run in May of this year and series star Keri Russell may already have her sights set on her next role. Russell is reportedly preparing to travel to a galaxy far, far away as the actress is said to be in early talks to join the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX film.

Variety reports that the role which Russell is considering requires “action-heavy fight scenes” – something which Russell is certainly familiar with. Though Russell is arguably best known for her breakout role on the classic drama Felicity, her work on The Americans as well as Mission: Impossible III and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes certainly displays her ability to take on a more action-focused role.

The upcoming Star Wars film will be written and directed by J.J. Abrams, who took over after director Colin Trevorrow exited the film citing creative differences. Abrams, along with Lucasfilm, reportedly spent the past two months searching for the right fit for this role before settling on Russell.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Abrams and Russell have worked together. J.J. Abrams was a co-creator (along with Matt Reeves) on Felicity and the two worked together once again on Mission: Impossible III.

Franchise stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver are all expected to return for Star Wars: Episode IX which is supposed to begin production at the end of this month.
