‘The Orville’ Emerges Winner at Saturn Awards

Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville took home a prize at this year’s Saturn Awards celebration.

His dreamt up, silly but serious take on Star Trek gained much popularity with fans wen it premiered last year.

The series received praises for being the Best Science Fiction Television Series, beating its fellow nominees, i.e. The 100, Colony, Doctor Who, The Expanse, Salvation, and The X-Files.

The Orville, a first season series, could have upset a few people because it trampled over the long-running series Doctor Who and The X-Files, which was presumably in its last season. Doctor Who fans were gunning for it to win instead this season, as it bid adue to star Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat.

The Orville was nominated in a total of three Saturn Awards categories: Best Science Fiction Television Series, MacFarlane for Best Actor on Television, but the award went to Kyle MacLachlan for Twin Peaks: The Return, and Adrianne Palicki was nominated for Best Actress on Television, but Sonequa Martin-Green of Star Trek: Discovery was awarded instead.

The Orville is also heading for San Diego Comic-Con in a couple weeks. Here, FOX will reveal a sneak peak at the second season of the popular Star Trek homage series on Saturday in the Indigo Ballroom. The Panelists who will be present are stars MacFarlane, Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, and Scott Grimes, executive producers David A. Goodman, Brannon Braga, and Jon Cassar.

The series is expected to be back on Sunday, December 30th after a Sunday Night Football double-header. The series will continue to be aired during its usual Thursday time slot seeing as the NFL season will have come to an end. This reminds us of The Orville’s opening episode, which came after a Sunday Night Football game before switching time slots to Thursdays for the remaining episodes.

Season Two is currently in production and Jessica Szohr will be joining the fun as a new series regular. Chris Johnson will continue to entertain us in season two. The show holds amazing crew as well, and are expected to have a veteran Star Trek writer was as one of the executive producers.

Star Trek: The Next Generation star and director Jonathan Frakes will also contribute to the new season of The Orville.
