’The Walking Dead’s Ross Marquand Wants to Play Moon Knight in the MCU

The Walking Dead‘s Ross Marquand is a man of many talents. He’s best known for his role as Aaron on the AMC hit series and for his impressive repertoire of celebrity impressions and character voices. This year, he also added a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to his resume when he appeared as the voice of Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War. Marquand, a longtime fan of Marvel, would also love to play another character if given the opportunity.

Over the weekend, Marquand attended Connecticut’s ComicCONN 2018 where he was interviewed by the folks at AiPTWhen asked if there was another Marvel character he would physically like to play in a film, he had an immediate answer – Moon Knight! Marquand went on to explain his reasonings and refute the fact that many say Moon Knight is Marvel’s version of DC’s Batman. He said:

[row]”Moon Knight! It’s tough because a lot of my friends have said Moon Knight is essentially just Marvel’s answer to Batman, but I don’t agree with that. I agree that there are similarities, but Moon Knight was a mercenary–kind of a gun for hire who didn’t really have much regard for people before he had his moment of awakening, I guess. And Bruce was always a good guy–even as a kid, he was torn by revenge, but he wasn’t this bloodthirsty killer like Moon Knight.”[/row]

Marquand sees the potential for Moon Knight to go places which no comic book character has gone before and that really excites him about the character. Marquand continued.

[row]”With what they’ve been doing the last 15 years with the character–going into the dissociative identity disorder, really calling in to question if everything happening is all in his head, is he actually a vigilante killer or did he die in Egypt? It brings up a slew of questions, and that to me has never really been delved into in any comic book character before–the idea of, is any of this actually happening? Is he crazy? Is he killing good people? Is he actually dead in Egypt? Those are such amazing questions and I don’t feel like any comic book series before or since has really tapped into that. So for me, playing a crazy superhero would be awesome.”[/row]

A Moon Knight film is a real possibility for the MCU, but it’s just a matter of when it will happen. In April of this year, ScreenRant spoke with Marvel’s head Kevin Feige about their plans on bringing the hero to the big screen. Feige said it’s definitely in the cards at some point. When asked if a Moon Knight film would ever be made, he said, “Yes. Does that mean five years from now, 10 years from now, 15 years from now? There are stacks of character cards that we have in our, in our development offices, which we look at. Which we pull for him, which we discussed.”
