Originally a short film by Dennis Liu, Raising Dion is a high-concept series that centers on a single mother named Nicole and the relationship she has with her young son Dion who begins to have magical and supernatural abilities following the death of his father Mark, who will be played by Black Panther’s Michael B. Jordan. Ritter will be playing Mark’s best friend Pat, who helps Nicole discover the origins of Dion’s powers while striving to keep them hidden from the outside world and those who are trying to exploit him.

Dennis Liu will be directing with Jordan serving as an Executive Producer alongside unREAL’s Carol Barbee.

“I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I’m excited to partner with Netflix and MACRO, who I know shares that commitment. More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry,” Liu said in a statement upon Netflix’s annoucement of the series.

While the roles of Dion and Nicole are still waiting to be cast and an official relase date is still unkown, we do know that the first season will feature 10 episodes.
