Stephen King’s ‘Dark Tower’ Series Is Getting Graphic!

Stephen King’s Dark Tower saga is getting a graphic revival! The eight-book series follows the journey of Mid-World’s last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, on his quest to reach a tower that connects all worlds which are slowly crumbling around him. Inspired by Robert Browning’s poem, Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came, King’s Dark Tower combines sci-fi, fantasy, horror and western genres across three decades that link much of his ever-expanding universe. It was in 2007 that comic book giant Marvel obtained rights to publish the epic tale in a comic book format but those rights have now been acquired by Gallery 13, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, who are planning to republish the series beginning this summer.

“Simon & Schuster has been the official publisher of Stephen King for twenty years now, and we’re thrilled that Gallery 13 will be publishing these essential works that he and Marvel Comics originally and vividly brought to life as a canonical expansion of the #1 New York Times bestselling Dark Tower novel series,” said Ed Schlesinger, Senior Editor at Gallery 13.” – Source: Bleeding Cool

Split into two storylines, The Dark Tower comics focuses it’s first set, titled Beginnings, on flashbacks from Roland’s childhood contained in King’s fourth book in the series, Wizard and Glass. The second set, titled The Gunslinger, is a direct adaptation of King’s first book in the series of the same name. Both sets, 11 graphic novels in total, are co-written by Peter David and Robin Furth that feature artwork by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove.

The Dark Tower holds a special place in the heart of all hardcore Stephen King fans. Sadly last year’s movie adaptation featuring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey received less than stellar reviews, but I have high hopes that Gallery 13 can rebuild fan faith by bringing back the Gilead Gunslinger we have come to adore. Gallery 13 will republish The Gunslinger Born, the first installment of the Beginnings series, on August 14th followed by a new installment every two weeks. The Gunslinger series is set to republish starting in Spring of 2019.

Thankee-Sai Gallery 13!
