Fans familiar with Robert Kirkman’s comics will recall that after the events of the all-out war arc, the storyline took a leap forward two years. Kang did not confirm how much of a jump forward the television series will take but she did say the upcoming season will have a new feel about it. She said:

[row]”We’re working on a season that has a really fresh look and feel. We come in on some pretty fun stuff. I’m really focusing a lot on the core character relationships in the show that have kind of been long-lasting, as well as all of our wonderful series regulars.”[/row]

Speaking of series regulars, Kang also teased that fans can expect some upcoming “great stories” centered around fan favorites Carol (Melissa McBride), Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Kang teased:

[row]”We’re going to see some really great stories with the women in our show, particularly. And I think for people who are really invested in Michonne, Maggie or Carol, there’s such great material for them. For people who are looking for that specifically, they will see some really incredible work from our women.”[/row]

Season 9 of The Walking Dead has already been a rollercoaster of emotions and new episodes won’t even begin to air until later on this year in October! It has been reported that both Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan will be leaving the series before the season’s end. Cohan was recently cast in ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier which was announced as being picked up to series during the recent 2018 television upfronts. Both Cohan and Lincoln are said to appear in just six episodes in the upcoming season.

In addition to Lincoln and Cohan’s departure, Jon Bernthal is said to be rejoining the cast in the upcoming season reprising his role as Shane Walsh for one episode. It is speculated that Shane may be returning as a vision or hallucination to Rick Grimes (Lincoln).

The upcoming season will be the first with Kang at the helm of the series replacing Scott M. Gimple and it’s sure to be a season that fans will never forget!

The Walking Dead will return to AMC this fall.
