Christoper Markus and Stephen McFeely on the Location of the Soul Stone in ‘Infinity War’

While promo season leading up to Avengers: Infinity War was important, what happened after the movie was released revealed more information. With any iconic film, there is a veil of secrecy to protect the hard work put in. In fact, that’s true with any film. When it comes to Infinity War, however, that secrecy was at an all-time high.

In a recent video, posted by Kevin Smith, the MCU screenwriters discussed Infinity War and gave fans a look into what went into the thought process behind the film.

In one part of the interview, the location of the soul stone was brought up. Of course, up until that scene in the film, no one knew where the soul stone was hidden.

Some Infinity War merch even played up the unknown location of the soul stone. It was a large part of the story. So when Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus opened up about the secrecy, it made a lot of sense.

Markus began by saying that it wasn’t a secret to really ‘torment’ fans.

‘Not specifically to torment you or make you wrong, but we wanted it somewhere very meaningful to Thanos, and pure to the movie, so that it wasn’t ‘we’re going over here to revist…ya know.’

McFeely went on to say that it added to the mystery, it was almost a puzzle for fans to try to figure out.

‘We already had that problem right? You knew a lot of places where the stones were so if you knew every one of them there was going to be much less mystery, and just on a screenwriting level, it was really important to us to have a mystery. What does Gamora know that you all don’t know?’

After seeing Infinity War, it’s safe to say that we wish Gamora had no tie to the soul stone at all. However, as Doctor Strange promised…this had to happen. There was no other way.

Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters now and Avengers 4 will be released in 2019.
