E3 2018: Norman Reedus is Sam Bridges in ‘Death Stranding’ Trailer

Ever since Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid) told E3 attendees in 2016 that he would be developing a PS4 exclusive game called Death Stranding, fans have been eagerly waiting for its release. Well, fast-forward two years to E3 2018 where the Sony press conference granted future players a new trailer with a long gameplay demonstration.

The trailer stars The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus right at home in a new dystopian universe. He plays a character named Sam Bridges, “a man who delivers”. We see Bridges wearing some sort of a protective suit traveling across all sorts of desolate lands, showing off the game’s impressive open-world environment, wearing a backpack that holds the remnants of the future.

Here’s how the Play Station blog describes Sam:

Sam is unlike any other hero you may have seen in games before. A typical hero is usually some sort of elite or someone with a military background. Sam is not. He is a working man of sorts — a hands-on professional. Someone with a skillset akin to a blue-collar worker.

While fans have been introduced to Reedus’ character before, the trailer offers a first look at Léa Seydoux’s character. There’s a scene where the pair is holding their breath in order to go undetected by these invisible monsters that definitely have hands for feet.

The trailer also previews Timefall rain, which Kojima has hinted to in the past. The rain “ages and deteriorates objects and people upon impact” as well as some pretty impressive obstacles players will have to guide Bridges through.

The game looks visually stunning and extremely captivating despite its mysterious plot. In addition to Reedus and Seydoux, Death Stranding also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Lindsay Wagner, and The Shape of Water’s Guillermo del Toro. Check out the full trailer below!
