One Draft of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ had a Different Ending
While Avengers: Infinity War has been in theaters for over a month, it’s still the talk of the pop culture realm. The storyline, the depth of the characters, and the villain that is Thanos have given fans a lot to talk about.
We laughed, we cried (a lot…like a lot), and we left the theater counting down the days until Avengers 4. It was an experience more than a movie and it’s one we won’t soon forget.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus discussed a bit about the film and how the ending could have been different if another draft was chosen.
It’s been said for some time now that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 are two separate films. That doesn’t mean that they always had the perfect grip on where Infinity War would end. Or at least, where to put that scene. You know, the one where Thanos snaps and destroys half of the universe and 100% of our hearts.
On saving Thanos’ snap for the second film, the screenwriters had this to say.
‘What we realized is, it would feel more like a cliffhanger than we intended.’
They continued by saying that they didn’t want to bring audiences back in for Avengers 4 as just a continuing of what they’d seen in Infinity War.
‘We still argue that Infinity War is its own, complete film. It’s just the one where the bad guy wins.’
While there is a tie that binds the films, Avengers 4 is a different movie. One that will have to undergo one of the most secretive marketing/promo seasons in Marvel history. Almost anything could be seen as a spoiler, and we know not to expect that.
