The First Trailer for Andy Serkis’ ‘Mowgli’ Tells a Darker ‘Jungle Book’ Story
Chances are you probably already know the story of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, we can guarantee you’ve never seen the classic tale looking like this before!
From Warner Bros. Studios and directed by Andy Serkis comes our first look at a darker and more serious telling of the story in a new upcoming film called Mowgli. You won’t find any dancing and singing cartoons in this version.
Serkis’ version tells the familiar story of a human boy named Mowgli (played by Rohan Chand) who grows up in the jungle raised by wolves. He believes himself to be a wolf until that reality is turned upside down by Bagheera (a panther played by Christain Bale). Bagheera shows him the way to a nearby village of humans all the while, Mowgli is in danger as he is being hunted by tiger Shere Khan (played by Benedict Cumberbatch).
From the looks of the first trailer, Serkis’ directorial eye focuses on the dark beauty of the jungle and the grave and at times even scary happenings that Mowgli encounters.
In addition to Chand, Bale, and Cumberbatch, the film stars Cate Blanchett, Tom Hollander, Peter Mullan, Naomie Harris, Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto. Additionally, Serkis is also starring in the film as Baloo the bear.
Check out the first trailer below. Mowgli is set to hit theaters on October 19th!
