Vision and Scarlet Witch had a Beautiful and Emotional Arc in ‘Infinity War’

If you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War yet, we’d recommend not reading any further. This post contains spoilers.

Avengers: Infinity War brought with it a lot of heartache and loss. From the loss of heroes to the loss of everything they thought they knew, Infinity War changes everything. For some, that change brings with it the highest price to be paid.

Early on, we see Wanda and Vision in a state of relaxation, having taken time away together after the events of Civil War. They’re toying with the idea of staying together in their hotel forever while knowing the world outside still exists. Vision worries the mind stone is trying to tell him something, but Wanda assures him all she feels is him.

Of course, that beautiful little paradise lasts only moments until the two are made aware of the battle in New York via television. Then, because the battle gets brought to them. They don’t fight alone for long, because Falcon, Black Widow, and Steve Rogers are there – ready to help take on the children of Thanos.

There lies the beginning of the end for Vision and Wanda. As they’re made aware that as long as Vision holds the soul stone, they’re in grave danger. Steve takes them to Wakanda, where he reunites with T’Challa and his buddy, his pal, Bucky. You can tell that he’s been there before, comfortable enough to find solace in Wakanda with a deep trust in Black Panther.

It allows a trust to form between Vision, Scarlet Witch, and those in Wakanda as well. It also allows a moment of hope, even if that hope is short lived.

More than once in the film, the idea of Wanda destroying the mind stone even if it meant destroying him, hits her. It’s a fate she can hardly fathom, however, when the fight in Wakanda became overwhelming, there is no other option.

Their arc doesn’t begin there, but it hits the highest peak. When Wanda and Vision afre down to the last moments before she has to destroy him, he repeats to her what she told him at the beginning of the film. All he felt was her. He promises her that she could never hurt him. There wasn’t pain or fear, but the love between them and the comfort it brought him.

In a moment of selflessness, she has to risk sacrificing Vision’s life to save the world. Of course, Thanos has other plans, however, she was able to find the strength inside of her to do the unspeakable.

Before the film hit theaters, she spoke of their story being an emotional one. Having seen Infinity War, that almost feels like an understatement.
